| Former Secretary of Defense William J. Perry believes “a diplomatic solution is possible to today’s crisis,” and he’s right. The first step would be for the United States to scale back military exercises in South Korea in exchange for a freeze on North Korean nuclear and missile tests. But to create space for diplomacy to work, we must first prevent war.

The Congressional Budget Office, CBO, released a new report estimating that the Trump administration’s plans to maintain and replace the US nuclear arsenal over 30 years would cost $1.2 trillion in constant dollars. We made sure that the voices of defense experts supporting a sane nuclear policy, including former Secretary of Defense William J. Perry and Ret. Gen. James E. Cartwright, were heard loud and clear.
